英語での数字の言い方・書き方
　今回は英語での数字の言い方や書き方について紹介します。

　100より上の数字も今までと同様に100の位＋10の位＋１の位の数字で表されます。

　1,000以上の数字も大きい数字から小さい数字の順番で表されます。また、英語の場合は1,000以上の数字は３桁刻みで単位が変わると共にコンマが一つ追加されます。

※ hundred, thousand, millionなどは複数形にはしません。

数字を読んでみよう

　以下の数字を読んでみましょう。

・987,654,321 → nine hundred eighty million, six hundred fifty-four thousand, three hundred and twenty-one

少数

　小数点以下のある数字を読む際は“.” （小数点）はpointと発音し、小数点以下の数字は一つずつ読みます。

・123.45 → one hundred twenty-three point four five
・0.98 → zero point nine eight

分数

　分数を読む際は、分子、分母の順番で読みます。分母は除数で読みます。分子が２以上の場合は除数にsをつけます。また、1/2、1/4、3/4は特殊な読み方をします。

・1/3 → a (one) third
　分子が２以上の場合は
・2/3 → two thirds

・1/2 → a (one) half
・1/4 → a (one) quarter
・3/4 → three quarters

数式

　数式で使われる各記号は+ (plus)、- (minus)、x (times)、÷ (divided [by])、= (equals)のように読みます。

・1 + 2 = 3 → One plus two equals three.
・5 – 4 = 1 → Five minus four equals one.
・4 x 2 = 12 → Four times two equals eight.
・6 ÷ 2 = 3 → Six divided by two equals three.

日付

　日付を言う場合は“It is　( It’s ) October 30th.” のように、It is ( It’s )の後ろに月の名前と日にち（序数）を続けます。年号を言う場合は、“It is　( It’s ) October 30th,1950.”のように一番後ろに加えます。
　また、アメリカ式とイギリス式では、日付の順番が異なることも知っておきましょう。アメリカ式では「月→日→年」の順番で表されるのに対し、イギリス式では「日→月→年」の順番になります。

　 – It’s October 30th.

　日付は序数を用いて表します。

・１日：first (1st)
・２日：second (2nd)

年号

　年号の言い方基本的に真ん中（100の位と10の位の間）で区切って読みます。

・894：8 / 94 → eight ninety-four
・1800 : 18 / 00 → eighteen hundred
・1989：19 / 78 → nineteen eighty-nine
・2000*：2000 → two thousand
・2008*：2000 / 9 → two thousand (and) eight
・2021*：20 / 21→ twenty twenty-one
2000 / 21 → two thousand (and) twenty-one
